Curious if anybody knows if they are allowing the softbreak at the US open? Also if the nine ball is gonna be on the spot?

We will find out at the players meeting

last year was loser rack. It was a standard nine ball rack one on the spot and the two had to be the bottom ball. I also believe four balls had to pass the side pocket but I can't remember for sure. Anyone?

Couldn't find "definitive" rules on their website, but there's a summary of the rules here:

http://www.usopen9ballchampionships.com/2008+players.php

(See the "RULES FOR 2008" table.) No mention of whether soft-breaking is allowed, nor how many balls need to pass the side pocket or head-string. This topic might be something that is finalized in the players meeting on Saturday, 18 October.

Hope this is helpful,
-Sean

They will probably announce it at the tournament.
The soft break has not been allowed for the last couple of years and I doubt if it will be allowed this year. Also, last year they had to break from the box.
Since they did away with the Sardo rack, they have been racking with the one ball on the spot.

Thanks for posting the link!
