Hello:
I'm still new to cuemaking (as a hobbyist) and I've sold a few cues locally. I have gotten requests from a couple folks to build cues with ebony forearms and I'm wondering how the cues would balance. Has anybody used solid ebony forearms (not cored) ? I'm not really set up to do coring. I'm worried that the weight will create a heavy cue that is balanced way forward. We have a local cuemaker where I live who has made cues for many years and has made many cues with solid ebony forearms. The owners of these cues (including some excellent players) really like the balance and hit of the cues. Would I be OK with ebony if I use a 12 inch forearm with an aluminum A-joint pin and light maple for the handle? So far I have only used ebony for sleeves and trim pieces. I really like working with ebony and it is really beautiful when finished.
Anybody care to make suggestions for a newbie?
