Some stroke questions

Ok, i have been working on my stroke/game alot lately. When i first started playing i had a fairly big pump stroke not like bustamante or anything but the 2 things I feel this stroke does for me is get the feel for a shot better and I can see the angle of the shot and can aim better when im cuing the ball at 6 o'clock low even if this is not where i end up hitting the cue ball. I have been getting some help from upa touring pro Dave hemmah. He wants me to completly take this pump out of my stroke, and I do agree so i have changed it. I just noticed im able to run more racks when i have a faster pace of play and am acting a little cocky around the table. This is not my personality, im not a cocky show off, i just notice that when i start taking more time and am playing more machanical, as opposed to playing with more feel i cant put racks together as easy. A huge thing that dave has me doing that made my stoke go to hell for 2 weeks but now i love the hit is keeping my cue tip up at all times and having my mental set up be that im striking up under the ball as opposed to down on the ball, having the hit come from the bottem of my tip instead of the top...sorry if im not explaining things well. Is my problem with not being able to string together as many racks just mental or could it be that im thinking to much about my fundamentals instead of just playing with feel. I understand this is a hard question to answere, just wanted some insight.

Thanks, mack

My guess would be that the changes you are applying don't feel natural and so you're not able to concentrate and relax like you normally do. Once you get your changes feeling natural you can have any tempo you like. If you go back to what feels natural, ie what you've been doing without all the changes, you'll play better now, but if you keep going with the changes you will be playing better later.
