Somtimes overly technical.....

New to the site, but have been reading, some thoughts of others. Seems to me that there is a lot of over thinking this game. I have been playing since i was 15, Im 33 now. I am by no means a pro, but consider myself good. I find that I play from experience and feel, meaning over time I have developed a "feel" for where to contact the OB ball to pocket it, I have never really used the diamonds on a table for aiming angles...etc. As far as english...again, from years of playing, trial and error, i just know how much of what to use, and know how much a ball will react to said english, varying slightly to type of table. Anyway, I try not to clutter my head with technical fractional playing...... Practice practice practice......time on the table. Now if you can manage to merge these two types of playing and use each when needed....then you on top of it. Just my opinion. I guess if I was to be technical and missed, I would be asking myself why to much...causing distraction. But where I play "feel", I know it was just a basic break down in the basics, like poor contact on the cue ball or OB, I can blame myself and move on to the next task. Thanks Guys

Well there ya have it, we can close the aiming forum now.

At 33 you may not know this, but in time you will. As you get older things change, eyesight, physical abilities, nerves, a multitude of things. Most players have at sometime been feel players I'd bet, some better than others, but for another multitude of reasons there are those who choose a crutch of some type, or in this case, a system to fall back on when the balls look funny. It's nice to be able to pocket balls without even looking at the pocket. Can you feel that?

What renegade said. Plus, the idea of the technical end is to learn to do it by the subconscious. No one can play well if they are being technical on every shot and every move they make. That said, it greatly behooves someone to know the technical side of things.

That way, when you have the must have breakout, or safety, you know exactly how to do it, and don't have to guess at a clutch moment.

Was just an opinion and how I play..............meant nothing along the lines that that was the way TO play. I wish I was more technical, or atleast use it more.

People have different learning (and growing styles). Some people need to see models playing nearby to imitate. Some learn by feel. Some need detailed systems and routines.

Understood, was just my opinion.

and many thanks to one of AZB's own .. "ENGLISH!" for taking the time to PM me and clarify some things for me....... in a non-abrasive, more positive way. Im just here for info and, and to possibly get to know some fellow players.
