soup up a shaft?

I have been playing with 314 shafts since they came out. But I do not like the hit, just the performance. I have been thinking about getting the origanal shafts souped up. they have long ivory ferrules and are 13.5 mm..

would getting the ferrules reduced( 1/2 to 3/8 in.) and retapering to a 12.5 mm conical style reduce deflection much? is this something a repair man could be trusted with? or would I need somebody with a lot of knowledge?

thanks

I don't think that I would cut on the Ivory ferrules. Retapering the shafts with a final tip size of 12.5-12.75 will make a big differance from the original 13.5. Any competent cue repairman or cue maker can do this without any problems. It isn't that expensive, I charge $35 to retaper a shaft.
I think you will like the results going this route, since you are not happy with the hit a the 314 shaft. Myself I can't shoot with a predator shaft. I tried the other night and couldn't make a ball. You have to aim differant with them, and a shaft should compliment your game, not you having to change to the way a shaft plays.
