Southwest Pin

I once heard that the Franklin era SW cues did not have the cactus on the pin. I have recently seen a few billed as JF era cues with the cactus.

Can someone clear this up for me?

I own two SW cues--one is a 1987 vintage, the other 1992. Neither has a cactus on the pin.

And, yes, if you were wondering, they are both authentic SW cues. The 1987 cue I just had authenticated; the newer one was made for me.

Some have it. Some don't. Make sense now?

Just kidding. To my knowledge, Southwest started 'labeling' their pins with serial numbers in 1993 (or 1994?). Jerry, however, continued to make cues up until his passing in 1996. As a result, there are cues that are Franklin-era that have no date and Franklin-era that have dates.

Pharoah,

So are you saying that dates and cactus's ( or cacti ) coincide?

Every cue that has a cactus has a date (year) of manufacture on it, except the satin cues. So, yes, the dates and cacti coincide.

The cactus on the pin started in 1993. Jerry passed away in 1996. So, there were three years or so of Franklin-era cues made that did have the cactus.

I think the first cue with cactus logo was cue #301 93. Wonder who lucked up and got that one?
