Speaking of ring material

I've seen the various types of recon-stone material used in rings, but the only material I have comes in slabs. Wondering if anyone makes them in rod form, or are they cut off a slab? I could use My panto with a metal ring for a template to cut them out, but not sure how strong they will be, and have seen rings done like this that seemed like they were thicker then the thickness the slabs seem to come in. This got me wondering if someone has them in rod form?

Thanks Greg

It always comes in rough blocks. I have turned some round to make butt and joint sizes out of it. I think most of it is too brittle for that application. But the stone manufacturers have formulas for making some of the stones have some elasticity to them so they will bend a little without breaking. They came up with this for the pin makers. The only stone I have tried of that type is turquoise. Still have not put it in a cue but it seems like it would hold up okay.

Thanks Chris,
From some of the inlay I've used, one of My concerns was it being brittle like You mentioned. I have some turquoise slab, and It is brittle also. Atleast I have cut an sharp inlay with the stuff, then dropped It on the floor only to have it break. Once in a inlay pocket it seems fine, but making a ring out of it has me concerned. I have a packet from MSC, and they have some materials in rod or block form, but not the kinds I was mainly interested in.

Thanks Again,

Greg
