I think this is about the only sport that sportsbooks won't take, they cover everything from entertainment to politics and more! OK your going to say they will book a world tournament and the answer is yes,they will also book snooker,I guess they figure a world tournament can't be corruped and snooker isn't in the U.S. but I don't think they will take any bets on any billiards in the U.S.A. correct me if I'm wrong! ,are the pool players to close to each other and will set up the bookmakers and make a killing, have they done it before to them, what makes them stay away from taking bets? have pool players here ruined this? it's really a shame on this sport
 
In Vegas a number of years ago, they handicapped and accepted bets on the Challenge of Champions event. I remember the event was on ESPN and they even interviewed the guy who handicapped it.

Miracle of miracles, 20-1 Mike Lebron (few years away from a senior citizen at that point but still playing very high quality pool) wins and rumours of players getting together and putting in the fix start to circulate...

Last time I've heard of anyone even considering handicapping pool in the US.

The WPC event just held is usually handicapped by overseas bookies, I believe. Alex Pagulayan reportedly made some good money betting on himself the year he won (5K at 12-1 for a 60K payout but I'm definitely not sure about the numbers)

I don't see anything wrong betting on yourself UNLESS he fixed it with other players to win other then that I don't see anything wrong , but to have this sport ruined and degraded where sportsbooks won't book is a real slap in the face to this sport, they take all kinds of bets!

I think they know alot more then is being said about pro pool players for them not to take action on any matches here in the U.S.
 
so who is to blame for this travesty on billiards, this is an insult to to the sport and degrading. IMO
 
I got it from a very, very, solid source (well known pro) that that COC was fixed for Mike Lebron to win. IT was explained to me in detail. After the tournament appahrently all of the players were laughing about it, and they al made a good sum of money. This player was pissed about it saying something about 'Mitch Lawrence and his gang'. Thats why there is no sport booking in pool.

Think being a Sports Bookie is Part Science, Art, and Information. Think there is just not enough REAL TIME INFORMATION on Pro Pool Players to justify the Bookies getting involved. Compared to the NBA, NFL, and Major League Baseball.

There is no information and no money in the sport. And no sanctioning body. And the ability of one player to fix the game and have it hard to detect. The bookie's worst nightmare.

I M not much of a Gambler, yesterday drove to Casino Arizona in Scottsdsale, as I wanted to see what all the hoopla was about. Spent/Gambled 4 Bucks, Wife Spent/Gambled 5 Bucks, got tired of the Crowd, and Smoke. Came home.... :D
 
Pool for the most part will not end up in sports books in Vegas. The Challenge of champions that BudGreen had mentioned helped with that. 20-1 on LeBron, with 10 pool players laying down $5K each and each of them getting $100K in return when LeBron "won" the event.

Also, most people involved with pool in some form or another, know that most pool players are always broke and will do anything for a quick buck when the opportunity arises. Cheating, laying down, sandbagging and partnerships to get that quick buck is well known in the sports books across the country. Who do you think works in those sports books? Pretty well informed people as well as former bookies work in those sport books and these people are well versed in the way of pool players tricks and games.
