Spotting balls

When playing games like straight pool or one pocket and you have to spot balls for either a foul or unintentional shot, are you supposed to freeze balls to the ball above it on the spot line, or are you supposed to place them just a few millimeters from being frozen, or does it matter? I don't play straight poolr or one pocket much so I have never had this rule verified.

I believe they are suppose to be frozen...for example, if you make his final ball in his pocket and scratch behind it, both the ball you made and one of yours comes up I think. I believe they are frozen in a straight line from the spot to the rail.

Been a long time since I shot one hole.

That's what I figured, since there is a shot from there if the balls are frozen and you have ball in hand behind the headstring (in 1-hole), and the shot doesn't work unless they are frozen. But I've also heard people say that you can't freeze the balls or else it's a foul. That makes sense since you are touching another object ball, and there is a good chance you can accidentally move an object ball accidentally.

I believe that during the action of spotting a ball, it is okay to touch another object ball since they are suppose to be frozen. May want to check onepocket.org for this though...hmmm...kinda hard to freeze balls without touching them eh? LOL

Good Question

Always in the old days for all games, balls were frozien
in line with the footspot, but I have noticed with BCA
rules for 8 ball now, that a slight gap has to be between
the balls spotted.

I could not find anything in World Standardized rules
about how balls are to be spotted other than that they
are to be spotted, so I assume they still are to frozen
in 1 hole and 14.1.

The folks who told you that are full of doo-doo.
You figured correctly. At least for one-hole, I can't speak for straight pool.
