SS-Joint Conversion

Say I were to purchase a cue with a piloted stainless steel joint. I
want a white phenolic joint instead, but don't want to mess up the
forward balance of the cue.

Can a cuemaker shave down the outer circumference of the SS collar,
and sleeve white phenolic over it? I know some Black Boar cues use
ivory collars sleeved over stainless steel; I was wondering if this
can be done to a finished cue.

If so, what kind of costs am I looking at? This is all hypothetical, btw, I'm looking at some nice cues online that I would buy if not for their ss joints.

Thanks,
Roger

It definitely can be done. If you don't want a finish over the white phenolic it is a lot easier. If you want finish then you would be talking a lot more money. I personally think it is just creating a problem in the cue. Thin phenolic to crack on you later so I won't bother figuring up a price because I wouldn't want to do the job.
