Stabilized Deer Leg Bone or Antler for Ferrules?

Old Iowan

New member
Just wondering as I have the chance to have some done reasonably locally - I have both old, dry deer leg and bone - I'm just a newbie but was wondering if others have already tried these?? Yes, I realize there may already be a slight hole in the center of the leg bones but if it's smaller than required for a ferrule wouldn't that be OK?? The stabilization I'm pretty sure would also fill in 99% or any area in the center of antler pieces so....??

Of the bones I've found in the woods of what I assume to be deer the hole thru the leg bone is fairly big once all the marrow is gone and odd shaped usually.

I've built several joint collars and Ferrells out of antlers, easy enough to work with but bone stinks bad while cutting or sanding
