Stacking Slates flat on a pallet

Hi Gents,

I've got slates for several 10' tables leaning on a wall in my garage. I need to empty my garage to insulate the walls and remodel. Plus, I'm tired of them taking up space. I'm wondering if it's okay to stack them flat on a beefy pallet that I will make. I'm going to need to move them a few times in the near future. They will be placed on a heavy duty pallet rack on the bottom shelve that can handle the weight I would use a small fork truck to load them onto a trailer and then lift them onto the pallet rack. Can the slates crack easier from bouncing during transport? Should I use a few ratchet straps to hold them tight to the pallet?

Any input?

Thanks and Merry Christmas!!

I'm sure they'd be fine. If I was stacking them, I'd put wood slats cut the same thickness as the slate liners to put under the slates where there is no support, if storing them for a while. Just my $0.02.

Flat against each other is completely safe as long as nothing is between them. I've found slates to be pretty damn durable if shown even an ounce of care
