Stained Forearm

Are there any disadvantages to staining a maple forearm? I am thinking of about having a custom cue builder make me a cue that has a stained maple forarm with a full ebony splice. Any thought on the stain? Will the maple hold stain well? Will it look uniform if done properly?
 
Is that how this cue got it's color?

The only disadvantage to staining I can think of would be if you where ever to have the cue refinished ,it's not hard to cut through the stain if the guy isn't carefull.
