Stargate Billards in FWB, FL

I recently vacationed in Fort Walton Beach, Florida and had occasion to stop by Stargate Billiards and shoot pool for a few hours. There were a few older gentlemen in there playing 9-ball and a couple playing 10-ball.

I noticed on the cork board that Johnny Archer had won a 128-player tournament there, so I mentioned it to the lady who was working there and she said Johnny was a real regular there a while back and he'd spent a lot of time there.

It was really nice knowing that he'd been there and left his "mark".

The place is really nice. The tables have Simonis 860 cloth and really good Aramith balls. I didn't have my cues with me but I was satisfied with the Lucasi house sticks.

I'll definitely get down there again and shoot a few more games.

It is Starcade billiards....and a great place....bar boxes in the front for the bangers, and 9 foots in the back for the serious players. I did some events there and always came in a day early to play in the Thursday night tourney.

You're right, Starcade, not Stargate. Yes, I saw the bar boxes and some people playing darts in the front room, too. I didn't bother going in there, though. I was too interested in all those 9-foot tables, I guess. It's sure a nice place.

This place is one of the nicest pool halls I've visited.

It's a top shelf place.

Imagining the decor choice it it was actually Stargate billiards...

Starcade Billiards used to have two tournaments per year. They were the BEST. They were Memorial tournaments that were started in honor of the two owners Andy Grubbs and Robin Workman.

Miss those two guys and the tournaments that honor them.

I talked to Ms Barbra last time I was down and she said she was thinking about starting them back up but doing a limited field. We had like108 in the last one and it was a very long weekend. 6 hour drive one way for me.

Eddie,
I hear ya. It's 5 1/2 hours for me. We must really like Barbara and her tournaments at Starcade Billiards in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.

I wish she would hire a real professional tournament director, a professional live streamer like www.poolactiontv.com. It all costs money.

I think I went to the last one and it was brutal.

I played in the last one also. Played my last match of day one at 2:30 AM. I was 62 at the time and played a straight shooting 20 year old. I had to suck it up and ended up winning that match. Liked the room and the town very much. Hope they crank it back up before the 7 hour drive down there is beyond me.

The facility has seating for spectators, and the table layout is great.

I was there during a spring break in Destin. Went out first day to beach and sunburned my eye lids. I woke up next day, looked in the mirror, and said, "I'm not an animal. I'm a human being!" I looked like the Elephant Man.

Needless to say, I spent the week at Starcade while my wife and kids were on the beach. All the other time, I had ice pack on my eyes.

What a week it was, and to have Starcade close by was a blessing.

Tournament directors

I wonder if there are any TOP tournament directors that would want to volunteer their time to help Barbara run this event. I talked with Scotty Townsend yesterday after he spanked me in a pool tournament and he had nothing but nice things to say about the events at Starcade Billiards.

Hope something comes of the rumor that they might have some additional tournaments.
