Steve Klein hit

I am having trouble describing the hit of a cue to friends. I am playing a Steve Klein with ivory joint and radial pin along with an OB-1 or 314-2 shaft. To me, it has a medium soft hit with plenty of feed back, no vibration and surprising effortless power. I have tried many of my cues & friends cues and keep coming back to this combo. As a matter of fact I like it so well that I recently had Mr. Steve start me another (a simple playing cue that I would not have to worry about disappearing). Could anyone out there help me describe this hit & are there any other combos out there that hit similar?

Cheers---------------BW

Shortman, your post warms my heart! :)

Steve Klein's cues are A-OK! Any custom cue you can order puts a smile on my face because that's the way pool should be played.

I've got more custom cues than I need, but not as many as I want!

As soon as I have a new high end spliced cue with lots of ivory and two shafts, I'm on the phone with another maker ordering a plain jane that will sing like a canary when I take a few swings with it. Like a child, The Woim has never lost the ecstatic pleasure of holding and playing with a new custom cue. The old one's never lose their glory either... :D

Yours Very Truly,
The Woim

Hit?

Do you really think mr klein is immpressed thet you prefer another shaft on his cue. What tips are on the origional shafts, Ferrule type? He worked with Bill Stroud made their shafts did all work and you like the feel or lack of feel I should say in pred and spliced shafts. Cue makers try to make every cue hit the same . feel the same Klein makes good cues the origonal shafts are what will sell the cue. I saw him in the 90's along with another guy Ernie Martinez. I made a trade and got 350 for 1 origonal shaft and 250 for the other while getting themoney off another cue.pd 650 more for 2000. cue The pt is you might try getting used to the reg shafts. Have you tryied useing bk-h break tips on the shafts. the phillipino players use them. or kamuibrand.com

I agree with Hollywood.

The "hit" you are referring to has almost NOTHING to do with Steve Klein - it's the laminated shafts you're playing with.

Minor differences in feedback based on the joint/pin, but the entire concept behind 314s, OB1s, etc., is that you will experience essentially the exact same hit regardless of what cue you screw them onto.

Personally, I like wood, not glue. So the 2x4 feel of laminated shafts doesn't do it for me (just a personal preference - we all like different hits). And I like shafts that a master cuemaker like Bill Stroud spent years turning and turning, getting the taper and the timbre just right.

Anyways, it is most likely the weight and balance point of the butt that you like and allows you to play better than the same shaft with other butts. But the hit itself is in those manufactured shafts.

But the good news is that you know what you like, and you've found the perfect combo for you. That means everything in this game!

I have 5 Steve Klein cues, and I love them all. One is featured in the photo pages of the Blue Book, far right, the only other one like it is Steve's personal playing cue. The Klein hit is firm but not stiff, extrememly well balanced, everything you said, but I prefer the Klein shafts over a combo cue. Steve also has the old growth wood available. I like the combo idea with some cues but not my Kleins which were not expensive but I consider them high end cues because of their look, feel. workmanship, and playability, similar to my old Ernie Martinez cues. I am a cuenut, so I like just about every cue, as long as the cuemaker isn't being promoted by someone with obvious bad karma

I have a beautiful 6 Pt non-catalogued Klein cue with custom features that I offered for sale at a tremendous discount recently. Only one shaft was very lightly played for one evening. The cue is flawless. I had to stop cutting the price to avoid giving it away. It's described here and believe me, it plays great ! The hit is medium in stiffness with some feedback and a very pleasant resonance. I offered it on a satisfaction guaranteed basis. I had two buyers reneg and several lowball offers. I think it's a shame that due to lack of name recognition his cues are not in demand, because they are truly fine cues

I just had to take it off the market. Sorry, I didn't mean to hijack your thread...Tom

Ah yes, trying to describe the hit of a cue. I would say it's like trying to describe how something tastes. The best you can do is compare it to something familiar. Hits like a SW;) Tastes like chicken;)
