I keep hearing about these j/b cues. Who here owns one and what do you think of it?

I am moreso interested in this as a break cue only.

I had one before I quit playing Loved it.. I ordered a Samsara but do not have it yet. There waiting to get them in so I put a deposit on it to be one of them to be held for me.

i talk to steve alot and i own one of his jump cues. this is what he told me, if you want a jump cue from him, buy a jump cue. if you want a break cue from him, have him build you a break cue. he me told his jump/breaks do the job but they don't jump quite as well because what makes his jump cues special is the weight of the wood he uses. the jumpers are made from tornillo (i may have butchered that) and are very light. like i said i own one of his jump cues and i love it. my ability to jump over balls with a great degree of accuracy went up a huge percent. it was worth every penny i spent. i have also shot with one of his playing cues and they are phenominal. i can only imagine his break cues are great as well. the bonus is, he is a great guy to deal with. contact him and talk to him about what you want. he posts on here as stevel.

I just have the jump cue and its so good it feels like cheating, Mike Massey used mine at my house about 8-9 months ago, he said "dont worry I have my own Jumpcue". I insisted he try mine-which isnt my style but Mike said "ok". He ordered one from Steve, it dont get stronger than that IMO.

After reading this I might have to get both!

My Lomax jump cue is easily the best I've ever seen. After I got it, my confidence & execution went up a bunch. It just works.

Steve promised to bring JoeyA a "can't miss" Steve Lomax jump cue to try out here in New Orleans when he visits his mom. I hope he hasn't forgotten.

I've tried both his j/b cues and his jump cues

Firstly his j/b cue. Construction wise i wasn't overly impressed. Points were way off level and there were a few glue lines. Shaft wood was decent enough for a break cue, ring work was ok too. Performance wise i can't really give that good of a assessment, the cue i tried was a good ounce lighter than i'm used to so it didn't perform as i hoped it would. I've heard that other people breaking with the same cue were hitting the rack like a train.

His jump cues are probably the best around at the mo, i've only had a few hits with one of them but i was very impressed.

I don't remember ever building a jump/break with points.I may have built a few out of house cues.I don't think I would have let a cue out of my shop
in the shape you described.

Best Wishes,

Steve

I am not very proficient at jumping. I jump like Fatboy spells.. :D

But, I have used Eric's and my freind's Lomax jump cue and they are both incredible.

If I didn't already have a custom J/B, I would have one of Steve's jump cues in my case.

Russ...

If I'm remembering the cue correctly it didn't looked like a house cue conversion. I can't remember what the base wood was but i'm sure it had a very nice curly maple forearm and i think a,b & e rings, it was some time ago since i last saw it.

I have a titlist j/b from Steve, I can't find anything that I'm not happy with. Breaks a tone, jumps great, I get compliments everytime.

I own a predator air, but Steve's jumps better than that.
I haven't tried a Lomax jump cue, but I'm sure it jumps better than a j/b.
j/b is convenient, since I carry 2X4 Thomas case.

If I have time, I'll post some pictures.

You can't go wrong with a Lomax.

i'm going with - i highly doubt the cue you're describing came out of steve's shop. until recently i played in a bca league with steve once a week and steve is at most of the local tournaments i go to doing repair work for players and i have never seen one of his cues not be perfect. that includes older cues he's made for players that i've seen as well as the newer stuff he has with him to sell. uneven points and glue lines aren't the way he lets stuff go. all you have to do is take a look at at one of his leather wraps and that will tell you everything you want to know about how he builds cues, the material is un-flawed, the edges are perfect and if you can see a seem you've got better eye sight than superman. i don't have the cash for another custom right now but when i do you can bet it'll be steve i'm putting the call in to.

I chatted with Steve on the phone yesterday seems to be one hell of a nice guy. Now I have to decide to go with one of his jump/breaks or a jump cue and break cue.
