I'm pretty new to retipping cues and thought I would give it a try, so I did two old cues and they turned out pretty good, so I thought that I would try putting Moori on my playing cue. Well it turned out pretty good and I was pretty proud of myself until about my sixth shot and the tip flew off like a torpedo. How do you guys get these things to stick, I'm using tweetens 10 minute glue, I roughed up the glue side and actually put a few little scrapes on the glue side and also let it set overnight. Any help would be appreciated........Al

I've found that cyanacrylite(crazy glue, superglue, loc-tight sp?) products are the easiest to use for tips. I use the thicker gel stuff. After the glue is set and the tip is turned flush with the ferral another splash of the glue wiped on the side of the tip gives it a nice shine.

What do you mean when you refer to "glue side"? Are you referring to the tip or ferrule?

Step one- Clean ferrule (spotless, the glue may also require you to use a liguid cleaner as well)
Step two- "slightly rough up glued side of tip
Step three- depends on what "glue" you use, some you need to apply a pre-coat,some you apply to one surface, others you apply to both surfaces, etc etc. Read the instructions for application on the product.
Step four- Use something to hold the tip in place for whatever the required drying period is. I prefer a big rubber band. Again read the instructions for drying time (and time before use).
Step five- shape tip.

Your tip lasted past the "5 shot rule". All you have to do is take it back to the idiot that put it on and get a free replacement. :D

I followed all of the steps and I guess I would be the idiot.........I think I'm going to get some loc-tite and try that

If you can find it, try something called "Zap-A-Gap". My father used to repair cues and used this all the time; best of all the cue is usable fast. He would do a tip in 10 minutes for a drunken bar league player, always guarenteed his work, and never had a tip fall off. People still have tips on thier cues from him, and he passed away over 2 years ago.

i just bought this book off ebay about how to put a tip on. This guy said the absolute best stuff is the CVS brand super glue, the one that has some stuff in it, i think it starts with c a.......like chrystinallitththtioim alkanoididioeism
or sumthin
its in a red tube, i found it and it was just like the guy said. Ill post the name of it tonight after i get home and get a look at it.

Any Cyanoacrylate based glue will work. Loctite Super glue Gel is my personal favorite, but Loctite 454 is probably the most commonly used.

Do NOT use tweeten 10 minute cement, that stuff is absolute crap.

You should read this stuff, Tip Maintenance and Tip Selection, these links offer pretty good advice about this subject.

how hard is it to get into retipping for side money?

i had a guy offer to sell me a willard tipper on here for a good price and was wondering if i bought it how hard it would be to get into the groove of retipping and if it would actually make its money back?

i dont know a lot about the willard... so....

do it shape as well?

mostly i'm just looking for ways to pick up side cash while i'm in college.

i do tips for the the Billiard Factory in vegas, the glue i use is "duro super gel" NOT super glue. sets up in a min. and holds awsome.

Got it

Well, I went out and got some Loc-tite Super glue gel and glued a new tip on my cue and it seems to be holding, I will keep my fingers crossed, thanks guys for your replies....Al :D

You got the best stuff I have found so far. BTW, in case you guys have not seen it yet...Loc-tite now has that in a small bottle with a brush on applicator. It rules for getting a nice even amount on the tip and on the ferrule.
