Can someone explain how "streaming" works? I would like to watch the Lindenwood College match today. I have never heard of "streaming" until I came to this site. Lots of things I never heard of until I came here.:)

Here's my best description of Live Streaming or streaming.

Some people record live events with cameras, computers and other electronic equipment and send those images out over the Internet, LIVE. Streaming does not always have to be LIVE, as you can "stream" pre-recorded items as well.

Regardless, cutting to the chase. You don't need any special equipment to watch a live stream. Some Live Streams are FREE TO WATCH like the one today that www.poolactiontv.com is putting on at 2:00 pm. Just check in at 2:00 pm and click on the LIVE SHOW button and you will be able to watch Lindenwood University play pool against another college. http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=351263

Now if you're looking for something else, like watching two of the best pool players that ever walked the planet, you can go to www.theactionreport.com and while this Live Stream is not free, for a fee you can watch it. This NOT FREE Live Stream is called PPV or Pay Per View.

On most Live Streams you will need to register, and then you will need to confirm your registration via email, then you will have to log in. It's not that difficult to do and the Live Streamers will often have HELP buttons to walk you through the process or to offer suggestions to any problems that you may have created for yourself by not following the directions the first time.

Give it a shot.

Oh, and one more thing. There is often a CHAT that can be used simultaneously while watching the Live STream. The CHAT is a separate window and you also have to REGISTER and login and create a Password, just like you do for the Live Stream. With the CHAT, you can "talk"/"type" and keep up with the conversations of other people who are watching the same Live Stream.

That's about it. Jump in. You'll have fun. After a while, you won't even have to think about how to do it. It will be as natural as logging into this Main Forum.

Best.....

P.S. This PSA was provided to you because you are a fisherman. ;-)

Joey,
Thanks for the great explanation!. I am concerned that my internet is too slow. I did some type of check on it a few minutes ago and it showed a lot slower than recommended. I live in the "sticks" and don't have a lot of internet server choices. Thanks again. I hope I get to watch the Lindenwood match!

Sometimes, even with FAST Internet speeds on the watcher's end, you may have "choppiness" where the video freezes up.

Live Streamer's have hurdles to overcome on their end as well and people like Ray Hansen of PoolActionTv.com always get the most out of their bandwidth and overcome problems with the feed as best they can, like most Live Streamers.

Don't forget, sometimes the LiveStreamers will record the matches and set them up on youtube for you and others to watch at a later date.

Sometimes your internet provider restricts the speed of downloads.
For example:
http://www.worldsnooker.livesport.tv/
a pay site ($5 per month) runs at 650 kbs, or 350 kbs if restricted.

If you have a monthly download limit and incur fat charges when exceeded, keep a eye on your usage to avoid expensive surprises.

well crappie.....from your name I guess you are a fishin kinda dude like me! So here it is...streaming with a fast connection is like a new 18 foot bass tracker with 3d fish finder, sonar, front n rear trollers with gps navigation, and a Yeti cooler full o your favorite beverages.

streaming with a slow connection is like paddling your 350 pound aunt around a retention pond in a dugout canoe with a cane pole and a can of Tab soda!

hope that helps :)

Streaming a video or music over the internet is not just a pool thing. When you watch Netflix, you are watching a streamed movie, when you listen to Pandora, you are listening to streamed music.

There is live streaming and recorded or on demand streaming.

To get a good stream that is setup for high quality, you'd want a stable internet connection in the several MB range. Netflix has a nice simple guide https://support.netflix.com/en/node/306
