Stroke Modification

Hello everybody, as the title should suggest I desire to change my stroke.
On my back-stroke my tip swerves away from my body, upon forward-stroke it moves straight.

I think I have diagnosed this as a misalignment in my hand and elbow, specifically my hand is tucked too close to my body.

I have been playing for six years and am somewhat afraid to change my stroke at the moment because I have a big tournament coming up in six weeks.

Do you experts think it's safe for me to modify my stroke now? If the answer is yes I will be playing about 40 hours a week until tournament time.

Sorry if the question is dumb, no real access to coaches here in utah.

6 weeks at 40 hours per week should give you plenty of time to incorporate a minor modification into your process. I would suggest you make good use of a video camera as you work on the change, as you will be able to see what the new stroke should feel like while verifying that you are, in fact, making the change you want to make.
