Anyone ever play in one? Try it at home or at the pool hall? I've been trying it on my 8ft. table at home and averaging 82. It would make for a good ring game.
There is one being held in Columbus, OH the weekend after next. Begins April 18th.
There have been a few similar tournaments in Southern California. I believe it was called Total Offense Pool (http://www.topbilliard.net/). All players are given the exact same table layout, and receive a score for every rack based on the number of shots taken. Tables were pre-marked with ball locations so that they could be spotted correctly after each game.
Obviously, the lower the total score the better. It leads to creative differences in ways that people run the rack. Some actually go for shots that can pocket more than one ball in a single shot, although this happens rarely.
The last one I saw was at Hollywood Billiards a few years back. They had around 10 or so different table layouts setup. Much like a golf course, you'd start at one table, and go through each layout until your round was finished. There was a leaderboard and you could see people's progression as they finished their rounds.
