ok, i would like to know. when is your arm str8 up & down when storking the cb. is it a the back of the storke or middle or fornt. i say middle. is this right? i know some guys are str8 up & down in the front as the tip hits the ball.

I believe your forearm should be in a straight line to the floor at the point of contacting the CB. If this isn't correct, I would appreciate someone telling me. I watched an instructional tape by Willie Mosconi and he advocated gripping the cue just behind the balance point of the cue. Most players would not have their forearms straight up and down at the point of contacting the CB if they gripped the cue that way. I know I wouldn't because I have tried it. My hand is probably 8 or 9 inches forward of where it needs to be for my forearm to be pointing straight down to the floor. Any of you have thoughts about this? I've seen pros do it both ways. It does seem that most of them prefer their forearm perpendicular to the floor.

the Willie Mosconi book and tape. said at contact like you said . i was doing it till a friend of mine told me to have my forearm straight down in the middle. and he plays pool very good. now i dont know what to do lmao. i guesss willie mosconi know what he was doing ha.

Part of my setup routine involves adjusting so that my forearm is perpendicular to the floor at the point of contact with the CB. The only time I vary that is for safes and other really slow shots where precise CB placement is critical; then I tend to choke up a little so that my hand is in front of my elbow upon contact.

That's what works for me. YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary).

Just because he's really good at pool doesn't mean his form is proper. He has probably been doing that since he started, and he made it work for him, through lots of repetition. But I believe the fastest way to get better is to start with a solid foundation. I also do as these others have said, have the forearm point straight down at the contact point of the tip and QB.
