Substitute Shooter in Regional Qualifer Event for TAP?

Just wondering if my BS detector is getting up over nothing. I'm polling the AZ community for sensible, unbiased opinions on something that's not sitting right.

Scenario:Regional qualifier for 8B this past weekend in TAP. All teams from same franchise area (Franchise A). League rules prohibit franchise owners competing for player money.

Home Team contains 8 players (7,5,5,5,4,3,3,3) on normal regular season roster. Regional roster handicaps for tournament changed to (6,5,5,5,5,4,4,3). One SL5 player is a franchise owner from another area (Franchise B). Played on team throughout regular sessions.

Home Team announces at Regional that Franchise Owner B (SL5) will recuse himself from playing; instead will SUBSTITUTE a SL4 - per TAP allowable guidelines  - picked at his option from any other team in division. That SL4 is arguably under-ranked and competes consistently with SL5 competition.

Home Team wins first round (3-1) with ringer SL4 and conveniently downgraded SL6. Home Team wins second round and trip to nationals, again on the stick of the ringer SL4.

Sound like a stacked deck to anyone else?

Recusing oneself and sitting out is understandable. Don't want neighboring franchise players calling foul. Feel free to rejoin the team if you make it to Nationals.

But how can TAP allow a League Op to hand-pick a ringer to compete for a regional qualifier? Especially when the team still had 3 'original' (and recently SL raised) members on the roster sit available, yet they sat and watched.

Sounds a little shady.

Why do people go through so much b.s. to play in tournaments that even if you win, your barely beating the cost of the trip?

As far as I know, you can't bring in someone that played on a different team as a sub.

Something is not right here. The eight people that qualified for the regional event are the only players allowed to play on that team. If one player excuses themselves, then they will have to play with the seven players left.

LOL...make the call to TAP Live Chat.

Agreed. My reputation and integrity is worth more than any trip.

Not saying that this substitution was made OUTSIDE the rules, but I don't know for sure. Those intricacies of TAP aren't in the rule book. I still feel it was working within the rules to gain a competitive advantage. An advantage that clearly played into how the qualifier turned out.

Please pm me

Please PM the name of this TAP op. TAP licensees are allowed to play on teams but they must drop off before the Titleholders or national playoffs. They are allowed to be substituted with a player of their skill level or lower but the team is suppose to pick the player, not the TAP op. What I do locally is allow that team to sub me for a player that was my skill level or lower from a team that did not make it out of the playoffs and from the division that they played in only.

PS...TAP has many new licensees coming in and some of these new licensees are still learning. Most if not all older licensees know this rule.
