I have read posts for years on AZbilliards, but this is my first time posting on this site. I just returned home from Allen Hopkins' Super Billiards Expo. Another fun year of vendors, tournaments and gambling. I really hated the 3 year hiatus. Normally my goal is to have a good time shopping at the many booths, visiting with various pool players and old friends, playing my hardest in the tournaments, and watching the action. This year I had another goal. My pool playing friend, Dennis Straub, was recently diagnosed with brain cancer, a glioblastoma. This is an extremely aggressive tumor and he has already undergone surgery, as well as radiation, and chemotherapy. He has a GoFundMe site to raise funds to defray some of the medical expenses, but I decided to try to raise more money for him. So, I sold some homemade hot peeper jelly at the show. The response from everyone was incredible, vendors and pool players alike. I was especially pleasantly surprised by the generosity of Danny Janes. When I stopped at his booth and told him about Dennis, he donated a Joss cue without hesitation, which I raffled off at a charity event for Dennis. Danny has always struck me as a funny, intelligent man who has made very good cues for many years. As you all may already know, he is also a very caring, human being who loves the pool community. Upstate Al also donated a cue and is a great part of the pool community too. I can't thank them enough. Thanks to all who donated money, bought pepper jelly, and to Danny and Al for cue donations. I had a better time at the show than I ever have before and we raised 2600 dollars for Dennis. Bob Madenjian
