Supplies in Okinawa?

Does anyone happen to know of any billiards equipment dealers in Okinawa?
Looking for tips, chalk, tools etc...
I do not know any big stores in Okinawa. Since you are located in KouShu, I know one store in Fukuoka called Fox Sport which may be able to help you..
Here is the link: http://www.fox-corp.com/
Hope you find this helpful.

Maybe talk to someone at Kadena Air Force Base. If it still exists. I remember they had a fairly nice pool room there. PM me your name and address. I'll send you 12 cubes of Masters chalk.

Not in KouShu, completely unfamiliar with it or Fukuoka. Are these on mainland Japan?
I'm on the largest of the Ryukus, a couple hundred miles south of Honshu (mainland).

You should check with the locals, Okinawa is part of KyuShu, so is Fukuoka. I understand that you are on a seperated island, and I was suggesting that you may order on line from a company close by.
Anyway, you can buy a Billiards magazine and there are many companies' information listed inside.

I spent 6 months at Camp Schwab. I made it to Kadena a few times. Your chalk will be mailed today.

Okinawa is Okinawa, Kyushu is Kyushu. Two different regions of Japan (however, close to eachother). Asked my Japanese wife, and my 15 year old Japanese son who just looked it up in his geography book. Yes, Kadena is still there in Okinawa, but I'm not familiar with what's available on base. Your best bet would be to go to the ER Sports online shopping page where you can order whatever you need. It will arrive at your door in two days. Their home page is in all Japanese or Korean, but you could have a Japanese friend help you out. If not, give them a call. They have and English speaking person available.

Also, if you can get in touch with the house pro Mr. Mekari at Cyber Pro Shop USA, he is from Okinawa, and speaks some English. His shop is also a good supplier, and if they don't have what you're interested in, Mr. Mekari at least, being from Okinawa, can tell you where to go.
If you're looking for trivial items like chalk, cheap house cues, and other accessories, your best bet would be to find a pool room. There's usually one near any major train station. Most pool rooms sell smaller accesories.

Thanks so much Hal.

Currently on year 3 of 3, can't wait to get back to the land of the big PX!

Nipponbilliards, thanks for the info about the islands. I guess you DO learn something new every day!
If I order online, I'd probably deal with a US site, my Japanese is a little rusty, and it's hard to get something shipped to APO/FPO from some "foreign" (relative term) sites.

Might be hitting you up for one of them breakin' sticks soon, too early to tell, and the wife is still reeling over the cue purchase!

Thanks, Dave.

The only pool room I've found sells no accessories:mad:
Guess I'll have to get down to Naha, or up to Nago

I think the little town outside Camp Schwab was called Henoko. I never saw a pool table. There was this Japanese woman who sold Tacos and Coca Cola in the old returnable bottles out of her house. It was some good eating.

I'm a veteran of the USAF and my wife is still AD AF. We're currently stationed at Scott AFB in Illinois and are trying to get to Kadena. I have shipped many items to APO/APE addresses. What exactly are you looking for? Maybe I can help out! Check out my site, www.zimsrack.com. If you don't see what you're looking for, just let me know!

Best of luck to you!

Thanks for all the info, I've been to your site and am looking to order a few sundry items soon.
Okinawa's a great place to live, I'm just tired of not being able to read the billboards!
Sorry for the misunderstanding, but I was speaking of businesses in Japan shipping to FPO addresses.

Sysiphus- Are there many places to play on Okinawa? On Military Installations and on the economy? We are trying to get assigned to Kadena (USAF) soon and was just wondering how the pool scene was there. Any leagues, tournaments, cue repairman, cue sales, etc.

Thanks for your time,
Zim

Zim,

There's tables (Bar boxes) at the E clubs on most bases; Foster, Kadena, Kinser.
NCO Clubs have none :(
Most of the O Clubs have one or two.
There's a bar down the road called Alabama's (Roll Tide, BTW) with 4 9 footers, extremely loud hip-hop music and 6 bucks for a Miller Lite, tables are always packed, seen a bit of money changing hands, but no league that I know of.
I've heard rumors of some halls by Kadena gate 2 with 10+ tables, but I haven't been yet. Just getting back into this billiard business after a 12 year hiatus, and slowly making my way around the island.
Good luck getting here, only advice is that if you get away with drinking and driving in the States, you may want to re-think that position when you get here. The SPs on Kadena will put your ass under the jail!

Yes, it came today! Thanks so much!
Two questions:
Were you in the Corps, or the Navy?
Do you drink coffee?
I was in the Corps.
0331 M-60 Machine gunner. Echo 2/8 2nd Marine Division. 1986-1990
I occaisonally partake in a cup of joe.

Well then,

I thank you for your service, and if I can bring myself to darken the door of the PX here on Foster (Marines.....BADBADBAD!), I'll send ya a spiffy USMC/Okinawa coffee cup for your drinking and reminiscing pleasure.

That would be very generous of you, but you don't have to really.
