First time I saw "surfer rod" in Denver was at a local bar that was dominated by a local hustler, a guy who nobody nationally knows how good he plays, but he can play with anybody. I won't blow his cover here. He used to hustle this bar on paycheck nights and everybody had a great time. He would play for money, set up proposition shots, toss coins, draw cards, whatever.

He set up this prop shot where the cue ball was on the middle diamond on one end rail, the object ball was on the middle diamond on the other end rail and he was betting everybody 2-1 that they couldn't make it in 3 tries and that he could make it in 3 tries.

Several guys tried it and then a seemingly drunk individual staggered out of the crowd and said "that doesn't look too tough". He wobbled as he lined up the shot but somehow managed to make it first try. The hustler, convinced it was luck, set it up again and offered double or nothing. The drunk amazingly made it again. To make a long story short, the hustler went broke trying to figure out if it was luck or not and a few days later, the rest of us found out that Surfer Rod had arrived.

Or maybe that was "Surfer Dave"...or "Surfer Ron"....hard to keep track of all these guys...

Cheers,
Regas
