table has shimmed rails

they table i just bought has shimmed rails... would it play more true if i removed them and had the subrail extended? also if i went that route what is the cost on that?
rkc quoted me 1500 to 1800 for a full restore and he is super busy cause he is the master. but would there be anyone else that can do the same work as rkc?
