Table in the garage?

The only place I could fit a 4 & 1/2 by 9 is in my garage. It is away from my house and has no AC or heat. In Pennsylvania with such variable weather changes throughout the year, is this a place I could have a pool table? Would the cushions go bad to quickly or the cloth stretch out of shape or.... or what?

Sounds like a good place to me. I do not believe anything could go wrong with the table that couldn't be replaced.

I knew a guy that had a table in his pole barn. He would play in the winter with his big winter jacket on.

Only in Minnesota...ha-ha

I would not recommend it Capt. Variations in temp and humidity will play havoc with the cloth and possibly the structure.

I had to rehab a couple up this end of the state that were garage stored.

Captain, you gotta worry about the humidity also. You could probably get a small heat pump to heat and cool it and a dehumidifer for the humidity. We could put it in in a weekend.

How about just freezing or roasting your ass off from temperature and humidity?? You can't put enough mini heaters in there in the winter to stay warm enough to play during winter. Your hands will fall off.

HOWEVER, if you get a PTAC heating & AC unit installed in there, it'll be better than being in the house all year. Look into investing in that. They're the units like you find in motel rooms.

Don, would you agree with a PTAC heat pump unit?

I have put a nine footer in my garage for the same reason, no room. Humidity here is a killer too. Get a De-Humidifier, Air Conditioner and a heater. I mounted shelves above shoulder high for box storage. When the heat is high and I go out of town for a while I just turn the De-Humidifier on and it creates an atmosphere like being in southern California. (Nothing rusts in California) A couple of hidden mouse traps helps. They will try to set up camp with the new climate. I don't run the De-Humidifier and the Air Conditioner at the same time, it is one or the other. I refer to the garage now as the Pool Hall and I couldn't be happier. Good luck. I couldn't have made the decision at a better time, the local Pool Hall has recently closed.

Drivemaker, I worked in a 350 room Holiday Inn for 7 years and yes it would work just fine. I would go with a heat pump and get away from the electric strip $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. You have to cut a pretty good size hole in the wall for them also. I like the new kind that you put the condensing unit outside and hang the evaporator on the wall. You just have to cut a hole big enough to put the liquid and suction lines thru. Much easier than the old hotel units. I use them in ATM's today. I have to run the lines thru brick.

The AC is de humidification. That be why they run a condensate line to a drain or a pump. Sounds like you did a good job. I took a pole out of the basement and made room for mine. Engineer said I could spend a grand and put in some steal or put the pole back in when I move. I have a certified welder that works for me so I can cut that part way down. Maybe $300 worth of steal and bingo. I don't know where in the hell I would put all that stuff that is in the 2 car garage now. Cars are in the driveway which we call the parkway.
