Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's possible add shims to a Crown and not have to completely remove the felt from the rails right? Can't you just unstaple the pocket sides, add the shim, then re-tuck and staple?

My table is coming in soon, and I had them felt the rails at the factory. I'm just thinking ahead if I end up wanting it a little tighter.

Normally this can't be done because once the cloth is installed it is trimmed to allow the rail to sit better on the table surface. After the shims are installed the cloth would be to short in this case to restaple, and would probably also create unsightly wrinkles in the cloth around the pocket mouths and under the rail for a short distance.

I know that it is not what you really want to hear but the best way is to just have the rails shimmed and reclothed by a professional, as most cloth on home tables will last 10yrs or more I believe that it's worth the extra money right off the bat.

Bern is correct, not much you can do except bite the bullet and have them reclothed after shimming. You wouldn't want to have rails lookin like crap on a new table. and if you really want the table to play perfectly, you should have the sub rail extended and new rubber cut. However, double shimming will give you the desired pocket tightness but will spit balls it shouldn't.

Hey bern, how long u been certified? How long was your training. Mine didn't last that long. just a 2 day thing

Thanks guys, I'm having my new table shipped to me with the rails covered option for $60. Since it's a pain to do, I fugured I have them do it. Maybe I"ll just tell them to forget that and check the pocket size when they get here. worst case I can bring the rails to a good installer and have them set them up right.

Hi Nineball nut, I have been certified alittle over two years but hve been doing tables for 3years with my boss. I took the 2 day course that Brunswick gives, and I have also installed tables at 2 WPBA events. I love pool and everything that is involved with it.

hey bern that's great. I have been installing tables for about 8 years now. I would love to be able to set up tables at tournaments. I also love pool and everything that goes with it. I currently sell hot tubs, pool tables, and fireplaces.
 
It was the last two WPBA events at Casino Windsor, tons of fun and tons of work. I see your in Traverse City do you ever make it to Hall of Fame in Warren? If you do give me a PM and I'll try to meet you to say hi. When i can make it across the border i usually go to the monday night handicapped tourny their, but the thursday open one is fun also. thanks bern. I have not been to hall of fame but I will certainly check it out. My friends and I usually get together once every couple of months and go to different places for the weekend to check out the action. It's fun and gives me a chance to play some better people

Wow! Do it for 15-20 years like I did and wait til the arthritis kicks in! Carrying slate will wear out your body prematurely! I try not to lift anything over 21 ounces, at work, now!

You have to remove the cloth. You have to glue the faces down and cut them. Not to mention letting the glue dry.

And Cuesmith. I've been doing it on and off for 2 years. I was out for about 3 months last summer because I busted my spleen in a Bicycling accident and they had to remove it. And I got back just in time for the Christmas rush. Talk about a rude awakening. The week after Christmas we got Sunday off again and I swear I couldn't move. And I'm 21.

I love pool also but I think I need to invest in Lottery tickets.
