Taom 2.0 Break/Jump vs Phenolic

Hi I currently have a Jenson break/jump cue and when Mike made it he put a Phenolic tip/ferrule on it, this was in 2005. Anyway I have been looking at replacing my tip as a divot came out of it a few weeks ago and I’m torn between going with another phenolic tip or with the Taom 2.0 break/jump. I’m a decent jumper with the phenolic tip but I have heard the Taom 2.0 is a step up. Does anyone have any input on how it jumps in relation to the phenolic?

I doubt you'll find any difference in jumping. You are likely to find an improvement in how the tip holds chalk and therefore be able to more confidently execute shots such as jump-draw.

The Taom 2.0 has much better break control I tried it on a friends break cue but since it wasn’t a 3 piece and I didn’t have a butt to match the shaft joint I couldn’t try it to jump other than as a full length cue so they really wasn’t a fair assessment.

I am confident you'll find the same positive result on the jumping end, as well--since it holds chalk better you'll find yourself with better control, even if it "hops" more or less the exact same.

Okay just a quick update. Breaking with the Taom 2.0 after using phenolic since 2005 I can say this, the contact on the cue ball feels much much softer I have amacing cue ball control on my breaks. As for jumping I am quite impressed at how I can control the cue ball during jump shots. All around I’m so stoked about this tip and feel the more I get comfortable with it the more I’m going to like it.

Yeah. It does it´s job and feel more like traditional tip. It is quality product as all from Taom.

My Zento break tip has a chip that blasted off somehow. I was checking out other things to try and found these Taom tips for sale. Reading the description of the product on Seybert's has sold me on it 100%. I'm going to order it today, how can I not? It will fulfill my lust for "dozens of substances" without "diluting them into each other", an outcome that leaves me trembling in fear and silently weeping into my pillow. The only question is what color to get?????

"Taom 2.0 hard break jump tips are a product manufactured with the methods of chemistry and physics, making use of less common techniques in merging organic compounds exhibiting large molecular structures with elastomers, but without diluting them into each other. This product is a compound of dozens of substances. The manufacturers pride themselves on our technique that replicates certain central ingredients and by making use of it, they can manufacture tips with revolutionary malleability. Tips are available in 5 different colors."

I would use one on a jumper, but not on a breaker they wear down quickly. My friend replaced two on his Breach because of the same issue. He aligns his break by cueing into the bottom of the CB, he also is shaft bender on follow through. The motion of these two actions ground the edges of the Taom tip very quickly. He uses a White Diamond break tip now.
I really like the Sonic break tip from Mezz. I contemplated replacing it with a Taom, but did not because of the issue my friend had.

I break with mine all the time it’s still in its original shape and just to give an idea I shoot leage 5 nights a week practice about 6hrs a day 4 days a week and shoot on an amateur tour every 4th Saturday of the month. I have had absolutely no wear on mine whatsoever.

My goodness that is a lot of playing.

Sounds like the key is to avoid cloth contact. I don't break with that style break anyway, so Taom is probably fine for me.

My tip contacts the carpet every break I have the white Taom 2.0 I clean off the white lines at the end of my match. This definitely shows if my break stroke is true as well cause it will be a clean straight white line.

He lines up his shot at the bottom of the CB to the point you can see marks on the cloth that lead into the CB, and is a big shaft bender on his follow through (also leaving cloth marks - not exactly a table owners best friend lol). It happened because of friction against the cloth creating sloped edges of the tip. It's not the smashing of repetitive breaks, but the friction that misshaped his tip. Maybe he is an exception in this? He has no problems with the White Diamond.

Maybe so because as you described his break mine is very similar and I haven’t had the issue. Maybe there are small differences in the tip colors like with the TAOM V10 it only comes in green cause they don’t have a way to make it another color with the formula they use for it.

Potentially. His was a stock tip on the CueTec Breach (which is white). I think he tried a Samsara after that, before settling on a white diamond. I might ask if he has any pictures for reference. I briefly considered putting a Taom on my Ignite G break shaft, and have a yellow one floating around in my case. He is the one who convinced me to stick with the Sonic tip.

I was ssinf phenolic before switching I have so much CB control on my breaks as well as my jumps. I would say it’s not for everyone but if you are changing tips it’s worth a try.

I had a phenolic tip on my Old LiSi (CueLee's) breaker. There were things, I liked and things I disliked.

Great power transfer (great for 8/10 ball or 1 on the spot 9 ball), but the sound and feel were not for me. It's also not allowed in some tournaments here (I think due to potential damage to the balls? Never really asked why, but did wonder before).

I think I'm going to try the Taom out at some point, possibly also give white diamond a try. Every time I fall out of love with the Sonic, It's from a bad days play. It's either 'one of those days' or a straight up 'me problem' and is forgotten about when back in form.
