Tara Open?

I had a tape from the finals of the 1987 or 1988
Tara Open 9-ball tournament, I've since misplaced it
but was wondering if anyone's heard of this event
and what years it was held, and where.

The match itself was great, Earl Strickland beat
Efren Reyes 15-14. They were young and utterly
fearless! They shot at everything and I think they
only missed one shot each.

The Tara Open was held as a $20,000 added Pro-Event for a few years at the Wagon Wheel on Tara Blvd on the South Side of Atlanta. I think that tournament was 88 or 89. I repaired cues at all the pro events that came there until they closed in 1992. The cloth was slower back then and they had to power the cue ball a lot. The pockets were not double shimmed so you could pocket balls hard. Those were some great tournaments they held there. They put up bleachers for spectators and filled them up. Pool was exciting back then and much more fun to watch as they still played power pool then. They couldn't slow roll 90% of the shots in like they can now with the fast cloth. I wish people who want fast cloth and tight pockets would watch the matches from the 80's and realize how much more exciting and entertaining the matches were then. I would love to see them bring power pool back!

Thanks Chris, your the first person I've ever heard
even mention that tournament...I was beginning to
almost think I'd imagined the title.
