Here are some images from the over 800 on the DVD that Mike Haines and I will be offering for sale on November 15. Only 15 of these DVDs will be offered. The first 15 people who PM me with an order on AZ Billiards will receive the DVD with their name on a personalized label and be entered in a raffle with the winner getting a free dinner at the highly rated Ruth's Chris Steakhouse in Louisville, KY on Wednesday, January 9th. That's right in the middle of the next DCC. The raffle winner will have famed pool writer George Fels, pool photographer Mike Haines, and two well known AZ guys (Fatboy and Jay Helfert) as dinner companions.

The images have been taken down, but the image captions have been left in place. You are welcome to check out the gallery on Smugmug that contains the sample pics that have been used in this post: http://billporter.smugmug.com/gallery/3785236/1/218241747#218241747
The "practice room" at the Clyde Childress tournament in Lexington, KY. Actually, it was the action room! The year was 1986. Look closely to find Fred Bentivegna, Grady Mathews, Efren Reyes, Jim Zehnder, and Mike Lebron. Grady was playing Jose Parica and Earl Stricland was playing on the next table at this point.
There is something about this image that, for me, captures an elemental aspect of pool. There's just you, the balls, and the table. The player here is Billy Dan Rogers and the setting is one of the Reds tournaments in the early 1980s.
Mike Haines, minimalist that he is, pushed for me to try to turn the above image into an "art shot." This was my effort to do so by paring down the image to its essential elements.
Buddy Hall in 1980 - He was rail thin in those days.
Danny Diliberto playing in the 1982 Dayton 9-Ball Open
Richie Ambrose at the 1980 Rocky Mountain 9-ball Open. Danny Janes really liked that shirt! And I'm sure that must have been Mike Haines's can of beverage.
Jimmy Reid at the Dayton Open in 1982. At his best, Jimmy could play with anyone.
Earl Strickland wins his first major tournament by besting Buddy Hall in the finals. It was Dayton in 1982.
Steve Cook (aka The Cookie Monster) chats with Earl Strickland.
David Howard (aka Little David the Giant Killer) with Alan Hopkins in the background
My favorite shot of Efren "The Magician" Reyes at the 2005 DCC
Larry Hubbart - the original Ice Man
A great "atmosphere" shot from the 1983-1984 Reds tournament in Houston, TX. That's Jersey Red (Jack Breit) and "King James" Rempe lagging for the break.
Billy Dan Rogers at one of the Reds tournaments. Everyone from the world of pool was there. Can you find Eddie Taylor lurking in the background?
Mike captured this excellent "portrait" shot of Jack Breit (aka Jesey Red) at a Reds tournament in the 1983-1984 time period. We sent a print of this image to George Fels when he asked if we had a nice photo of Red. To quote George, "The prints look WONDERFUL!"
""The Miz" - Steve Mizerak playing in a Clyde Childress Memorial Tournament in 1986. Dave Bollman looks on from chair.
