Textured Leather Wrap Seam Problem

Hi Everyone,
I had a custom full spliced sneaky pete made. And I had a reputable cue repairman cut in groove for a leather wrap and had him install a textured leather wrap. The texture is like a faux snake skin. From the naked eye, the seam is invisible. However, due to the bumpiness of the textured wrap, parts of the top surface of the wrap is ever-so-slightly lifting off. So if I am holding the cue a certain way, as I am stroking my shot, I can feel the seam, which makes me think about the seam and not the shot.

Here is my question to all the cue repair experts and cue makers out there, what is the best way to "smooth" it out or glue those spots down, so that it stays seamless and smooth? Any kind of glue and application technique that would work best? Thanks.

I would think that a rewrap is in order. About the only wraps I have issues with are ostrich sometimes.

It can happen, You can remedy it, by rubbing your finger against the piece, just to open it a little, (A LITTLE). and just put a little Elmer's in there, then push it down and rub it flat, If you have an old wallpaper edge roller, use that also. Elmer's dries real fast. I hope this helps.

wrap

I think you should call the cuemaker that built it for you. Ask him about it. Maybe he'll fix it, or tell you the best way. Can't hurt....
Good Luck

When I read this (over and over!) it sounds like there is quite a bit of "bumpiness" or relief in the texture of the wrap. Since the seam is invisible to the eye, it sounds like the edges are mated up nicely, but it is impossible to get the raised "bumps" in a textured wrap to line up perfectly. I'm guessing that what you are feeling is where a raised "bump" mates up to a "valley" and you can feel the edge of the high side. Our fingers can be pretty sensitive to this. Not sure that there is a sure-fire solution to this, other than re-wrapping with a smoother wrap.

Or I may be completely out in left field.:confused:

I have had several textured wraps do this, try licking your finger or thumb and rubbing up and down the seam. It sound silly and it will take several days of doing it but the edges of the wrap that were cut will wear down and become almost unnoticable. Just a thought.

Some of the seam problems I see are due to the leather fibers tearing and not the glue bond between the leather and the handle. Do what Mike said.
