you know, the ipt went out of it's way not to be seen by a lot of people, whoever attended the tournaments, you can back me up on this, but my god, at the venitian and at the grand seirra resort,both places, the tournaments were held in the way, way way back upstairs around the jive, turn go straight, now on your left look for a little teeny tiny sign that say's the ipt, do you see it?,no? keep looking, there you see it? yes, ok turn left and walk straight in, that's where the ipt tournament is. it's like we had leprocy, or something! sheeeet! it reminds me of this joke: how many jewish mothers does it take to screw in a light bulb? none, i'll sit in the dark,in other words, please, i don't wanna be a bother, it's like kevin said can i please please please have it at the venitian? please? "ok, but under one condition" anything,sir anything, we put you on the top floor upstairs in the very back, and you can't advertise you are having the biggest pool tornament in the world,ok? "ok, no problem" my god, ask anyone here who went, they really,let's put it this way, if the ipt tournaments wer'e held in mike sigels basement, it would have got the same exposure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i wasn't there so i'm not gong to question your judgement on this one, but i was under the impression that the actual tournament venues and setups, and all the luxury bells and whitles that were with them were the one thing nobody could critisize?

Well from a visitor's stand point, I totally understand what u mean. But I believe you have not been in the business of trade shows or things of that nature.
Advertising costs more than u may like 2 know. I know that when the Venetian was holding the Internext expo since ia2000, advertising were in the 50k's easily and that's only for three banners hung by grommets and four floor directional stands. Each directional sticker is about $125/ea.
It's sheer size is very important to a Hotel and how it sells its space even more so. Every Internext Expo was held in way in the back (Sands). Why? Easier setup, easier access, and for the sheer size of attendance, it the best choice.
I know the floor plan of the Venetian like the back of my hand and I can tell u the ball rooms aren't THAT big.... at least not enuff for Internext.
For their certain floor plan, it would be best to hold it in the back in order to accommodate a fast setup and breakdown of everything that needs to be done. Especially if the event is less than a week. If the event is much longer, you will notice many different things happening... but that's another story... like CES and stuff like that.
You might want to offer a piece of advice or suggestion in your thread.
My suggestion is, which I would like to extend to the BCA Expo or any other tournaments that are held like this: Hold mini's or traininng sessions or open forums/discussion groups on the lower levels or in the ballrooms leading to the main area. This will increase of ar least give better exposure... leading to more ticket sales.

I was just at The Venetian for the annual Academy of Ophthalmology conference, which is HUGE... much bigger than the IPT as you can imagine. We had physicians, nurses, and administrators from practises all over the world; not to mention the World Congress of Ophthalmology and other professional boards; countless pharmaceutical, surgical equipment and medical supply companies; food and masseur vendors; et cetera.
Walking in, there was no signage. It probably took an hour for me to find the meeting rooms, and another half hour to find the registration hall. I must have gotten lost every day. If I thought I was heading to the exhibit area, I ended up in Registration. I walked past my courses more than a few times. You need a personal GPS device in that place!
The point is, Bernie, that The Venetian had us both situated where neither events would disrupt their every day operations.
