i thought this was funny, odd, unusual, whatever you want to call it. perhaps sad is a more appropriate word.

my flight from Indiana got to Vegas about 5:00 Vegas time. i hustled out of McCarran Airport, found me a taxi, got over to the Westward Ho, got signed in, and again hustled over to get my tickets at the booth and get a good seat for the 7:00 matches that tuesday night.

i see over in the corner, next to Mr. Tiptons tournament directors table, that Allison is playing Akimi Kajitani at 7:00. its between 6:30 and 6:45 now, and i walk over to that section, hoping to just be able to sit somewhere close to Allison's match. i had VIP seats. but. . . . . . . . there wasnt anybody around. just a few people. some sitting in general admission, but nobody in the VIP row within 10 feet of Allison.

i thought this was strange, almost sad. here we are in Las Vegas, pretty much the best womens player on the planet, and there isnt hardly anybody around. when her match started there were a few people close by. but it was almost like i was the only one interested in being that close to watch her play.

i almost couldnt believe that there wasnt more of a crowd there to watch her play. i am sure glad i got there when i did, Allison and I spoke a little, love that English Accent! the place finally filled up over time, but something tells me deep down Allison appreciated that i was the only one there interested in her enough to be there at that time to watch her play. perhaps thats why she kinda smiles, waves, says hello when she sees me anymore, mostly in Peoria.

regards,
DCP
