Yep a great time to get hooked on the game.... as a kid, hanging around with older men and NOT your dad .
Now with bar tables mostly and the liquor environment, the 60's setting is not as prevalent.
Kids not allowed usually. Some places set hours for kids.

what i learned from the old drovers in pool rooms during my youth were some principles i used in my biz career and life in general

trust, but verify is a biggie

in biz don't ask critical questions unless you know the answer

don't fire your best shot until you hear "no", if you don't hear "no" your probably not getting the best deal or leaving $$$ on the table

persist, persist, persist

10's gravitate to confident men, staying in shape both physically & mentally are keys to confidence....age isn't of consequence

don't settle

do something positive every day

much later i learned that there is help to assist, all we have to do is accept and ask when weary

Excellent advice and strategies. Another one is shut up when you get the order. And shut up and listen most all other times.
