I really liked this article by David. Even though he describes it much more eloquently, I have thought for a time that the ability to concentrate well in pool was a conscious choice. Kind of like a light switch that you can turn on and off at will.

In his article, he appears to be talking about different states of concentration. I was glad to read this and that even though he said it much better, I was not the only one who thought that concentration was a decision rather than something inconsistent that happens sometimes and sometimes not.

One of David's many fine articles.

I understand what you mean, there are alot of times I practice at home and realize I am just "playing pool", not going through my routine, and missing shots I should make. I then refocus and gather my thoughts, get back into my routine and start shooting.

I would have to agree with you bluewolf. Concentration is something that you control. There are however heights of concentration that are a little harder to control. Sometimes you are at the table and despite all your efforts cannot seem to play even remotely close to the ability you know you have. Other times you are in what people refer to as "The Zone" and you just don't miss shot's the you always had trouble with before. So for the most part I would have to say that your playing ability is controlled by your mental game and concentration putting that knowledge into action.
