Hardcore 8-ballers and 9-ballers can ignore this: This is a "family game."
The SPIDER game post inspired this: Create a multi-player game by playing SPIDER in reverse. I'll call it Prison Break.
The 8 ball (a striped referee 8 ball would be perfect, and I have one) is the escaping convict spotted in center table, and 2-14 balls are the prison guards racked on the foot spot in any symmetrical configuration. Each player represents 1 (or 2 or 3) guards.
With CB BIH from the kitchen, pocket the 8-ball escapee into any pocket (escape tunnel) AND, ideally, break the rack of sleeping prison guards. Get one of your guards into the same tunnel first to capture the escaping convict and you score a point. The game is more challenging and lasts longer if you require 2 or 3 of your guards in the same hole to score a point.
Guards pocketed in the wrong hole get spotted center table, like a seven-ball cluster but bigger. Hitting your opponent's guard is no foul, in fact it is appropriate defensive play. Pocketing your opponents ball in correct hole results in loss of turn and a properly-pocketed guard credited to your opponent.
I don't know. Maybe this sucks. I was just trying to think of a game my daughter and her friends could play as a group. Playing pool is more fun than watching other people play. I will experiment with this.
