The Good and Bad of Pocket Billiards IMO

Good: KT said we will avoid conflicts

Bad: indications are that the IPT didn't do much to avoid conflicts

Good: 5 play dates have been established by the IPT so that the palyers and fans can start planning and keep to a schedule.

Bad: Players and fans that have already made plans for conflicting tour dates have to make a choice.... Is this really bad for the players and fans? or is it just bad for the promotors and current 'ruling orgs'?

Good: Watching elite players (top to bottom) play for 6 figure prizes

Bad: Going to the WPA and Other major events and seeing a watered down competition (no IPT members) and seeing a 16 year old beat players ranked from the 151st on down? JK

Good: Dressing up and paying the extra cash to attend a 1st class event with a glitzy product that can elevate the prestige and respectability of the game of pocket billiards.

Bad: Continuing to be part of the Staus Quo of the existing pool industry. Nothing but the Derby City Classic has been introduced with any amount of success since the 70s. Only some tournaments have increased their $20,000 added to $25,000 added in a 20 year span, sad that it hasn't even caught up with inflation.

Good: 8 Ball, call pocket, round robin, strengh of wins formats. Not unique but much better than the tired Double Elimination format.

Bad: All those 9 ball players are having to be resourceful in trying to learn how to play 8 ball. It can be a chore for them. This is really close to the definition of 'work'.

Good: Creating lots of 'chatter' on the forums.
Bad: Creating lots of polarized fans.

Good post pretty much sums up my stance, not rocket science but I just don't understand the 100% +ve and -ve posters. They are either being blind stupid, blind loyal or just blinded by the cash!

im all for anything that gets people talking about pool, going to play pool, spending money on pool, opening pool rooms, thinking about pool, thinking about somebody thats thinking about pool......well you get the idea.

so that said im all for the IPT, i think its great there will be some real money behind the game now, i think its great for our sport.

That being said, i dont think pool is ever gonna reach the level of popularity that the world poker tour has reached, i keep hearing that comparison and I just dont see it happening for the simple reason that anyone can play poker. You can sit down and play it........just learn the rules, and youre playing. Give it time to learn the odds and how to play situations, and you could be winning the wpt like moneymaker did. Ok that aint gonna happen in pool. Someone isnt gonna watch a pool match on tv......no matter how prime the prime time is........and go that night and play pool somewhere and be anywhere near proficient at it. And in a years time......theyre still probably going to be a beginner. If the pool bug doesnt bite them pretty hard they just arent going to fall into pool the way everyone can relate to poker.
