The Masters: upset city?

I've been out of the loop for a long time. I am wondering if it's just my perception that all the favorites seem to be getting knocked off or if my lack of familiarity with the winners means that I am under-rating them. Higgins is already in trouble.

Lower ranked player has won in the first four matches

Mark King (16) beat Mark Selby (6) - King has the hight break - 139

Peter Ebdon (12) beat Ali Carter (7) - first time in seven attempts

Ding Junhui (4) beat Mark Williams (3)

Graeme Dott (10) beat John Higgins (1) - record now 7 to 12

AWESOME!
I still think Higgins should have been banished from the game after last years match fixing episode. If he never wins again it will be too soon.

Marco Fu (18) beat Strephen Maguire (8)

Fu was in the top 16 when the players in the Masters were announced

Well since they are all top 16 players, there are no real 'upsets'. Just surprises lol. But the only one that surprises me there is Mark King, I get the feeling he never really does well against top ten players. Mark Allen is a fantastic talent, Graeme Dott is a former World Champion, same with Ebdon and Ding can beat anyone on any day. He's the only player to compile 100 centuries in competition as quickly as Ronnie (5 years I think).

The results don't reflect a lot of the old talents getting back into form. Take Williams and Dott for example. Stellar performances!

Jamie Cope (13) beat Shaun Murphy (5)
So Robertson was the only one not defeated by a lower ranked player.

He meets Mark Allen in the quarter finals, so maybe it is only a temporary reprieve.

Great info, just what I was looking for. It appears as though the gap in ability is even narrower among the top 16 than it was in the past. Also, judging by the recent rule changs in the ranking system, I've returned to the sport at a time when the rankings themselves are about to become much more dynamic and meaningful for professional snooker.

I think I might just as well take this opportunity to semi-publicly thank Barry Hearn for all his great work on the off chance he ever reads this.
