The season I'd like to play (doesn't seem to exist)

The format I would most enjoy would be to play sessions of a few months in individual competition. I'd want to play everyone on the list a couple times, in matches of decent duration (no "race to 3"), and have basic stats collected over time to see where I was in comparison to the other players. Rankings are kept in some form across sessions.

Maybe play one night a week, for 1.5-2 hours, against two other players. Maybe have 20-30 players competing. For larger numbers of people, you could group them by skill level to keep the play competitive.

I imagine there are good reasons this format doesn't exist. But something like this is what I would most like to participate in.

I saw several singles leagues during my travels over the years. There were 8 to 16 players that played a schedule like any team league. Each night the players played a race to seven in 8-ball or nine in 9-ball. One league was scratch, one was handicap. They ran fairly well; the only problem was getting it into the heads of the players that they must show up every week...they wanted to show up whenever convenient, as they do for weekly tournaments. The best format seemed to be a short season: one round (seven weeks for eight players) seemed to experience the fewest problems. Players paid a weekly fee and of course could wager on each match as well.

We have a singles senior league here that plays a handicapped race to 6 in 8 ball and a race to 7 in 9 ball. It seems to work OK. It takes a few hours to complete usually.

There are a lot of regulars in the weekly tournaments. Maybe the TD could produce rankings from the results of those tournaments for the players who wanted them. Right now I think he just records W/L for each match; still, over time, that's enough.

The short races means it takes more weeks of play to accurately rank players.

I'll talk to one of the TDs and see what he says.
