While watching the Vickery/Hernandez match, I noticed one thing that was missing. Fans. This is the featured table at the US open and there's less than a dozen fans in the surrounding seats! Granted, it's mid-afternoon on a weekday, but this is truly sad to witness. Is everyone playing poker today?

There are probably a lot of better matches going on on other tables. I feel a little cheated, why would they pick that match to feature.

I found it interesting because I play Howard in weekly tournaments. He played a little worse than I expected but it was nice seeing a player I've beaten beat F. Hernandez. Hey, maybe I should quit my job, get a divorce and join the circuit.

I can't blame the fans if it were Frankie Hernandez! Rudest player EVER! I had to put my match on pause 1 year at the Jersey 9-ball Champs at Jose Garcias room while he was throwing a hissy 2 tables down. The whole room was just stopped waiting for him to get control of himself. I think it was a universal shark on the whole tournament!:)

Because pool is a blue-collared, backroom game that is dominated by thugs, punks and criminals.

That may be true, but it doesn't answer the question. I asked, because if you're so concerned about there not being fans (a good concern, imho) but you're not there yourself being one of the fans, then something is keeping you from going and I'm curious to know what it is.

I would've gone but that darn rash has really been bothering me. On top of that, my dog has been sick and the transmission went out on my car. Maybe next year.

You're comparing one (1) televised match! Pool/Billiards is only 40% there, compared the rest of the other televised games. Hell, even the UFC (who doesn't like to see one guy get bashed in the mouth from time to time) has a higher following than pool/billiards.

That's not the point though. Billiards/pool is a game of class, as long as the pool community helps keep it that way. I classify the game of billiards in the same boat as classical music. It'll aways be there, and only those willing to better themselves will try it. You can learn the basics in a few minutes, but takes a lifetime to master (except for those select few who are just a genius, unfortunatly some of them are total assholes).

To some folks, watching pool is like watching a symphony. They don't know how to appreciate it, until they try it, then they're hooked. Just like anything else.

Just takes time, and education. You'll see. Ten years from now (or less) Billiards/Pool (if managed/promoted properly) will be the next couch potato spectator sport.

That comment could quite possibly be the most narrow minded thing I've ever read about Pocket Billiards. The real shame is, most of America shares the same sentiment. Damn sad state of affairs for my favorite pasttime!...Gerry
