The zone and playing speed

Laura ... I have played over forty years, and although 14.1 (straight pool) would not be a bad barometer, I would recommend 2 other ways. Have a '10'
speed watch you shoot 3 games, and give you a rating from 1 to 10 with 1 decimal place, i.e., 6.4 or 7.3. The other way is to play 10 ball 5 different times and use your average score from 10 ball, which is scored like bowling up to a max of 300. The 10 ball average can then be converted by a 9 or 10 speed to a 1 to 10 skill level with 1 decimal place. You need 1 decimal place because there is a big difference between a 7.1 and a 7.9 or a 5.2 and a 5.8.

10 ball overall with shot selection, getting out, combos, breakouts, execution is a good barometer except for 2 areas, and that is defense, or safety logic, when to play one, and executing it well, and the other is mental toughness when competing against another player with pressure on the game.

That's why a 9 or 10 speed would convert it for you, because they could evaluate the other 2 areas from knowing and watching you play in the past, and could lower or raise the converted average accordingly.

Something that is never mentioned, but is important is your diet, getting enough rest, and exercise. Pool is a sport, and like any other sport, you have to prepare to play your best. All 3 of those affect my ability to focus or be able to zone in.
If your diet suffers from fast food syndrome, then take a good multi-vitamin to supplement. I found a very good multi vitamin with minerals and ginseing and ginko biloba in it, and found that I was zoning in much easier and more often when taking it. It is called Fortitude, a Kroger's product.
I don't drink (6 years now) and that affects your ability to focus.
yes, it might help 1 time, but will hinder you many more times in your game. If I do not exercise and stay strong, it affects my game for the worse, my breaks, my stamina, and my ability to focus on a regular basis.

These affect your game, so you should give them some consideration, especially if you play competitive or money pool.

My niece was a year round swimmer. Her coach emphasized diet, I mean good, balance, holistic type diet,adequate sleep and all of that for good performance. I cannot see how alcohol would help, although most of the players in my league drink. I have not drunk anything for 12 years.

I obssess about pool to some degree and wake up in the middle of the night dreaming about it. It appears that most of my dreams are about pool, for what that is worth.

but haven't you noticed that when you AREN'T zoned, the target is hard to find,,,,and when you ARE, the aim point is huge....
or that the pocket that was soooo small is now bigger?

NO. I do not remember anything from the zone, not even the shots I made, so I do not remember how the pockets look either.

When I am not in the zone, I do not have any problem seeing the balls or the pockets because my eyes are ok. Sometimes the balls look squashed though, because I have astigmatism.

What do you mean by 'run 3 balls'? Are you referring to that little drill I have been doing? I got to 60% on that. 9ball girl is over 80% on that one, as is whitewolf. I dont know about the rest of ccb but ww says sl5 or above is about 80%. Surely you are not referring to that when you say 'run 3 balls'.

I would like to know what difficulty of shots you are referring to and at what %?
