Thin walled steel joints?

I've been out of the pool world for a good while so alot of established equipment is still new to me.

One question I've been asking is why are most steel jointed cues now built with thin walled steel collars? Good hitting, steel joint cues from back in the day (Huebler, Joss, Black, etc) had much thicker collars over wood.

Ivory joints are also being done the same thin walled way. So, what's the thinking?

I had my cue built specifically with a thin walled sleeved SS 3/4" joint. It allows me the 'feel' of a flat-faced big pinned joint, but the SS wall 'crisps' the hit for me. I get tremendous feedback from my cue. I'd do it again in a NY Minute.
