Thoughts on cloth

With our new room opening rapidly approaching we need to make some final decisions on table cloth.

Current thought pattern is to 86 the Simonis and go with Championship Tour. I have played on both and really didn't notice any difference in ball roll or action off the rails, it also seems that the Chapionship wears a bit better. The fact that the Championship is 20% less money doesn't hurt either.

Anyone have any insights that we missed?? Thanks.

Good choice

You haven't noticed Championship is a little faster? It is. However it does last twice as long and looks twice as good after a few months use in a poolroom.

I would give Granito Basalt a very serious look. It is less expensive than Simonis and a little more than Championship. However, it is a superior product made in Spain with a high wool use percentage. It wears really well over time and stays consistent and flat.

they play very similar to me. i dont think anyone would be dissapointed with any new high grade cloth, i'd choose the most cost efficent at this time.

I'll add my 2 cents. I play a regular Friday night game on a Gold Crown (2?) that used to have Simonis 860 on it and now has Championship Tournament Cloth. I am not sure who did the original installation but the Simonis always played the same, sometimes a little slower or faster depending on humidity, but generally fairly consistent. The Championship Tour Edition Cloth plays very well, and it seems to wear a little better, but, it gets really loose on some days and will bunch in your hand easily and Bubble in the corners and under the rail. I think it may just not have been stretched correctly, but i just thought I'd add my 2 cents.

BTW, I plan on replacing my cloth on my table with Championship Tour edition cloth.

it was either over or under streched or usally a combination of both, it just needs to be re-streched.

I have 860 on my table at home and play on Championship regularly. The Tour Edition doesn't show the wear or jump spots nearly as bad as the 860. I also think it plays slightly faster than my 860.
I liked it and the price so much, I bought it for my next re-cover.

Take a look at Milliken Super Pro...it's the stuff they have been using on the snooker tables over in Europe for years...far better than Simonis, lasts longer, and holds on to it's speed over time.

I've never played on anything that plays as well as 860 simonis. My cloth on my home table is over 5 years old, heavily used (for a home table), and still plays great. Just wipe it off with a damp cloth and you're good to go. Maybe the championship has improved, but the old stuff just wasn't as good, imho.
