Thoughts on what may have happened with this cue butt

What’s up AZ family! Bought this cue around July 2024 from a guy in the pool hall, he said it was fresh off the lathe. Shot a few racks, cue hit great and it went in rotation with my setup. Last night when I screwed it together, I felt something on the forearm. It has a crack going across it. Im working on getting in contact with that guy to see if it can be fixed. Just want to know if the cuemakers on here have seen anything like this happen before and if it can be fixed.

Just a SWAG here, but I'm going to guess that the spalted wood shrunk and it cracked at a step in the core.

I doubt it is repairable.

Spalted is a fancy word for rotten. It needs to be really dry and cored if it's gonna be used for cue making.
Tough to repair for sure.

Sure, or epoxy, or bubble gum. The question is whether it can look good after the repair.

Even if it is repaired, do you believe it won't happen again?

Tomato stake. Not a fan for this type wood being used in a cue. Even cored it is susceptible. On top of that it doesn't sound good.
