Repowering my dedicated Logan lathe tapering setup from single to three phase. What type controller do I need to recieve the limit switch signal to shut down all three legs and the router motor? Somthing like a mag starter switch? Feedback please, Thanks.

A magnetic starter is always a good idea on a 3ph motor of any significant size.
You can control your mag/starter, which in turn controls the lathe, thru a 3ph relay.
Same with your router thru a 1ph relay, assuming your router is 110v.
This can be done via a single wire from your limit switch to the relays' holding coils.
Hope this helps.

Now that I think of it, you should be able to shut-down your mag/strtr in the same way, thereby eliminating the 3ph relay. The mag/strtr is in effect, a relay. Sorry, been working day & nite.

Ken,

Like KJ Cues mentioned, a 3ph relay would work well. In addition, the relay could have an additional normally open contact that works in tandem with the other three poles...when the relay pulls in, the normally open contact closes and will complete both the 120 and 3ph circuits.

At work, we use what are called latch circuits, where the relay latches itself closed and is dependent on a stop switch remaining closed...in your case, it could be a normally closed limit switch. For a visual, please follow the link below and refer to the picture under Question #7.

http://www.allaboutcircuits.com/worksheets/latch.html

In the picture, CR1 with the circle is the coil and CR1 with the vertical lines indicate the normally open circuits. (One for the 3 phases and One for the auxiliary contact for the 120). This picture is identical to the setup we use for a bandsaw that shuts off when it is finished cutting. Allen Bradley and Square D both make very nice relays with four contacts.

Hope this helps,

Jason.
