Tight or Loose?

Do you hold your cue tight or loose?

sometimes when i hold my cue loose, i feel like i have less control over the cue.

what are your thoughts?

Thanks, Jonny

When i first started playing i probably left finger prints indented into the cues i played with. Now i've tried tight, loose and everything in between. I prefere a solid, firm grip on the cue without a lot of pressure.Well what i'm trying to say is the cue is dangling in my fingers but i'm not using muscle to hold it either. When i grasp the cue or have a tight grip around it i find my stroke goes off (probably due to invloving more muscle than i outta).

I feel cheated, I thought this topic was about something else.

N E way. Do whatever feels comfortable. I use a closed bridge with enough firmness to keep it from swaying. I don't like the feeling of the skin of my hand moving with the action of the cue. I also don't like the feeling of the cue bobbling around.

It's whatever fits you.

The best grip on a cue is loose that way we don't retard the action of the cue. The very best way is to throw the cue at the cue ball and grab the end of the butt. You can get action on the cue ball, You can believe. It's called a slip stroke.

This is probably not the right way to do it, but I tend to change my grip depending on the shot. If im real close to the ball, have to cut it backwards, and put a lot of english on it I tend to hold the cue tighter. If im farther away I tend to use a looser grip.

Just my 2 cents

I find this works well for a lot of different shots, but in no way would i use it for every shot. thats just IMO. Of course I am sure I am far from mastering it.

Very loose. I've even dropped a cue before and dinged it up because I was holding it a little too loose.

I have migrated towards a tight grip. It is only the index finger and thumb, basically as tight as they go. The other fingers are barely touching the cue, and my wrist is loose.

I've jumped back and forth between loose and tight grips for the past month, and after playing in 4 tournaments I have won 2 and lost 2. I won when I used a tight grip...hmmmm
