I live in a small town where its hard to find someone to put a tip on. I know I could do it myself by hand, without a lathe and do a decent job.

I do have a old wood turning lathe, does anyone make a chuck for cue shafts?

I'm always worried about scratching up the ferrule doing it by hand while I'm trimming down the excess tip. Have to shave it off with a exacto knife and then sand it to get it all nice and flush and really don't like to sand on the ferrule at all.

Just wondering if I could turn the old lathe into something useful without a lot of cost.

Don't expect it to be cheap to convert it for cue work, but I have converted hundreds of lathes for cue repair. Check out my website www.cuesmith.com and call me with any questions. I will need to know the spindle thread on your headstock and the taper inside your tailstock.

will have to look at it, may just buy a cue lathe at some point this winter and be done with it. Have heard good things about your lathe. Its either that or buy the willards tip tool which is cheaper, but not as nice to have by any means.
