tips and the sounds they make

I've heard that tips can have an effect on how your stick
sounds. Mine makes an annoying clicky sound that's driving
me up the wall (don't know what kind of tips on it cause
I bought the stick used). Any ideas on whether this is the
tip or my stick? If it does have to do with the tip, then
any suggestions on what kind of tip to get? Anything would
be better...quiet...thud..whatever..just no clicks.

The clicky sound might not be so much the tip itself, but a gap or bad glue job between tip and ferrule. Either way, have a new tip installed by someone that knows how to do it and go with medium or softer. That should do it. A sniper or everest is quieter.

I would guess it's not the tip but the workmanship. (if its a name brand tip)

An air pocket underneath the tip where the glue didn't completely cover the ferrule can cause this type of noise.

Could be a loose ferrule.

Also, make sure a weight in the cue hasn't sprung loose.

I assume you've got the stick screwed together tight.

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to get a new tip to see
if that gets rid of it. Hopefully that'll eliminate the air
bubble, if there is one (assumming there isn't an air bubble
again this time around)...and I'll try out one of the
medium tips and see if that helps too. I think the weight
bolt is fine - and I did screw the stick together tight.

one of mine did that I thought it was a ferrule but the sound was actually traveling down the shaft and was a loose ring in the butt

After posting what I did, I remember having that happen with a loose weight bolt also as well as a loose joint collar. Should have gone in to edit but I was too lazy. This should really scare and confuse the poor lad.
