Ok, I was borrowing a digital videocamera last weekend and videotaped some 9-ball and straight pool practising. Well, I shot like crap during the whole session, but I thought about Mr. McDogits challenge of an entertaining straight pool run using total chaos methodology. Well, I made a puny little run of 33 using this method (my high during the 1 hour of 14.1 :p ) , but there are a few nice shots here and there. And the run ended with a slightly unfortunate cueball position, then I had to take an off-angle combo which I promptly missed. Felt like running at least a 50 or 60 there. Worth watching though, if you want to see my stiff and jerky cueing action. Took me slightly over 6 minutes to accomplish, though my cueing rhythm was waayyy faster than usually. I usually take at least 4-5 practise strokes and don't just fire balls away like this. :)

The file is about 30Mb in size so dial-up connection holders might have to wait a bit more. I have also a higher quality vid of 60Mb.

Egg McDogit's post in a thread some days ago:

"with the run 100 threads lately, I thought it'd be entertaining if we could cajole some people into posting home videos of themselves running as many balls as they can using the "total chaos methodology"...e.g. trying to break the stack open at 100mph every chance you get. You can play semi-intelligent patterns, but the dumber and more entertaining your patterns are, the better. Using inside english, etc. on the breakshot will be heavily frowned upon.

I'll paypal a $25-50 reward to the person who produces the most entertaining video with a respectable run. Anyone else want to chip in?

Let me know what you think. I know my cueing action flaws so don't go there with too harsh comments, it's difficult to teach new tricks to an old dog like me.

EDIT: And yes, I'm tall. 6'5". Someone always asks :p

EDIT, 2nd ed. : The file is encoded with Divx. Ergo, proper codec is needed.

This is probably a codec problem. Codec, how do I explain codec? It is a video format and there are too many of them. The program your using to make the video is probably using one specific to your camera or spcific to your computer video card. When saving the file you should have options to pic which codec it uses and you want to pic the microsoft one so that it is compatable for the most people.

That is my best guess.

Nice video mjantti, kinda messed up on the third rack, but it was all good.Only i think u hit too hard on that combo.

Well first, the video didnt work on me too,but it asked me to download something called DivX,and i did.

I think the reason why u cant watch the video is because u did not download it.

Thanks Azri.

Well, about the combo, I always shoot combos with some authority, especially if the balls are more than a few inches apart. Shooting hard eliminates or at least diminishes the throw effect between balls and makes combos not so vulnerable to dirty balls or other surprising elements....

Good to hear that.

Looking forward on more of ur great post and videos.

Mikko, good video! Definitely thought you could run some more...kinda got funny on that last shot. Your run wasn't as chaotic as I was hoping for though :D In watching the video, I could tell you knew what you were doing  You're definitely in the lead for the paypal reward...any other takers?

I'm going to see if I can record myself running trying it out this week.

Thanks. I wasn't too chaotic, it seems I was just letting go with brain work but still was able to play some patterns... sorry. ;) I think I'll tape some more next weekend and try to be more chaotic. Hmm, I wonder how Luc Salvas or Tony Drago would do here...
